Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has reportedly called on the governors of Bauchi and Adamawa states to consider joining the African Democratic Congress (ADC), following the defection of Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, to the party.
The appeal comes amid growing political realignments ahead of future electoral contests, with the ADC positioning itself as a rising force in the country’s political landscape. Kefas’ move to the ADC has sparked fresh conversations around shifting loyalties among key political actors, particularly in the North-East.
Political observers say the Vice President’s call signals increasing efforts to strengthen opposition blocs and consolidate influence across strategic states. While neither the Bauchi nor Adamawa governors have officially responded to the invitation, sources suggest consultations are ongoing behind closed doors.
Kefas’ defection is expected to reshape political calculations in Taraba State, as supporters and stakeholders react to the governor’s decision. Analysts believe more defections could follow in the coming months as parties intensify groundwork ahead of upcoming elections.
