Former Nigerian Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has been appointed to lead the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Election Observation Mission for Côte d’Ivoire’s presidential election, scheduled for October 25, 2025.
The mission, which runs from October 19 to 29, brings together high-level representatives from across West Africa to observe and support a peaceful, credible, and transparent election process. Osinbajo will coordinate the delegation’s engagement with local authorities, civil society, and international observer groups to ensure that the polls reflect the will of the Ivorian people.
According to ECOWAS, the initiative aligns with its commitment to promoting democracy, peace, and good governance in the subregion. The mission’s work will also contribute to conflict prevention and the strengthening of electoral institutions.
Osinbajo emphasized the importance of credible elections as a foundation for political stability and regional progress. He stated that inclusive and transparent elections are vital for ensuring citizens’ trust in democratic systems.
For young Africans, this mission highlights the growing role of strong governance and citizen participation in shaping a stable environment for innovation, enterprise, and development.
