Nigeria international Ademola Lookman continued his blistering start to life in Spain as Atlético Madrid elimanted Club Brugge in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night.
Ademola recorded his seventh goal contribution in seven matches as Atlético Madrid booked a place in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16.
Atlético sealed qualification with a commanding 4–1 victory in the second leg of the knockout phase playoff, completing a 7–4 aggregate win over the Belgian champions on Tuesday night.
Lookman, who joined Atlético from Atalanta earlier this month, was introduced in the 70th minute and made an immediate impact. The Super Eagles forward provided a well-timed assist for Alexander Sørloth, capping another influential cameo in Europe’s elite competition.
The latest contribution takes Lookman’s tally to four goals and three assists in seven appearances across all competitions for Diego Simeone’s side, underlining his seamless adaptation to La Liga and the Champions League.
Atlético head coach Diego Simeone has praised Lookman’s attacking output since his arrival while encouraging the winger to continue improving his tactical and defensive discipline to fully align with the club’s demanding style of play.
With qualification secured, Atlético Madrid will now turn their attention to the Round of 16 draw, as Lookman’s red-hot form continues to boost the club’s ambitions both domestically and on the European stage.
