In an interview with Lucky Udu Experience, Temple Ahunanya, a former soldier, spoke about how he and other soldiers were ambushed by Boko Haram terrorists on Damboa Road in Borno State while heading for deployment.
Ahunanya said the number of troops heading for deployment was very large that day, so some soldiers, including himself, were transported in tipper trucks instead of Hilux vehicles. He said he was inside one of the tippers when the ambush happened.
Ahunanya stated that the incident made him realize that tipper trucks could resist bullets. He said those inside the tippers survived the attack, while many soldiers in the Hilux vehicles were killed. He said they made efforts to fight back, but despite their efforts, they still lost several men.
In Ahunanya’s words: “It was an ambush, how did terrorists know we were coming. They laid siege with their weapons, unknown to us. That was even when I knew that tipper is bullet proof. Some of us were in a tipper, I was also in a tipper”
