Former Big Brother Naija star Queen Mercy Atang is thanking God after a dangerous incident at her home this week. Early Wednesday morning, the POP ceiling in her living room suddenly collapsed, narrowly missing her family members who were in the house at the time.
According to Queen’s account on social media, her younger sister and nanny were in the living room sewing when the ceiling gave way, forcing them to run for their lives. Thankfully, both escaped without injury. Queen said she was asleep when her mother rushed in to alert her, and her biggest relief was hearing that her loved ones were safe.
This isn’t the first time part of her home has collapsed — she revealed that the POP ceiling in her garage also fell just a few weeks ago, raising concerns about the safety of the structure.
Queen also explained that she had returned home around 4 a.m. after picking up a friend from the airport who is in Nigeria for a Guinness World Record project she’s helping coordinate. Because it was late, she had asked workers to stay the night, though they had left by morning. By the time the POP ceiling collapsed at 7:58 a.m., only her sister and nanny remained in the room — and they were awake.
In her Instagram post, Queen wrote: “7:58am God said, not this family… Thank You for Your love and Your protection. I’m truly grateful.”
No one was hurt, and Queen is now focused on finding safer accommodation for her family while juggling her ongoing commitments.
