Bauchi Governor Accuses FG of Targeting Opposition, Rejects APC Pressure

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has accused the Federal Government of attempting to intimidate and criminalise political opponents who refuse to align with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking during a press conference, the governor alleged that federal authorities are deploying state institutions, including the courts and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), to harass individuals outside the ruling party.

Mohammed maintained that he would not succumb to political pressure to defect to the APC, stressing that his refusal should not be used as grounds for persecution.

“I will not allow anybody to criminalize me because I refuse to join their party,” he stated, while warning that continued actions he described as politically motivated could escalate tensions.

The governor further accused the APC-led administration of undermining democratic principles by allegedly targeting opposition figures, adding that such actions could deepen political divisions across the country.

He reaffirmed his commitment to remain in the opposition and continue speaking out against what he described as abuse of power by federal authorities.

The development comes amid growing political friction between opposition leaders and the administration of President Bola Tinubu, with calls from various quarters urging restraint and adherence to democratic norms.
