Best for small files (a few MB) — this is a browser tool, not a bulk uploader.

Everything on this page is processed locally on your device using your browser's own memory. Fundpeeps never sees or stores it.

About this tool

Base64URL Decoder turns Base64 or Base64URL text back into readable data, and can also encode text. Base64URL is a version of Base64 that is safe to put in web addresses, and you will meet it in login tokens, links and data passed between apps.

Decoding is not the same as decrypting. If something has been encrypted, decoding it will not reveal the secret. The conversion runs in your browser, so the text you enter stays on your device.

How to use it

  1. Paste the Base64 or Base64URL text into the box.
  2. Choose decode (or encode, if you want to go the other way).
  3. Read the result.
  4. Copy it if you need it elsewhere.

Example

A JSON web token has three parts separated by dots. Copy the middle part, paste it in and decode it to see the readable details inside, such as a user ID or an expiry time.

Tips

  • Do not treat decoded data as trusted. Anyone can create Base64 text, so it proves nothing by itself.
  • If the result looks like random symbols, the original may not be text, or it may be encrypted or compressed.

Questions people ask

What is the difference between Base64 and Base64URL?

Base64URL swaps two characters and drops padding so the text is safe in web addresses.

Is decoding the same as decrypting?

No. Decoding only changes the format. It does not unlock encrypted information.

Is my text sent to a server?

No. It is processed in your browser.

Why do I get an error?

The text may have extra spaces, missing characters or may not be valid Base64.
