The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed claims by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) that top ADC figures are planning to defect to the party.

Reacting to a statement made by APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, who hinted that prominent ADC members would join the APC soon, the ADC described the claim as “a sign of desperation” ahead of the 2027 general elections.

ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the ruling party’s focus on defections shows its disconnect from the real struggles of Nigerians. “No amount of defections can save the APC from the anger of Nigerians whose lives have worsened under its leadership,” he stated.

He further challenged the APC to reveal the names of the supposed defectors, insisting that real political strength lies in credibility and performance, not political showmanship.

The ADC accused the ruling party of using propaganda to distract citizens from economic hardship, insecurity, and unemployment, urging Nigerians—especially the youth—to stay politically aware and demand accountability from leaders.

As the nation edges closer to the 2027 polls, both ruling and opposition parties are intensifying their political moves. For Nigeria’s youth, this serves as a reminder that true change doesn’t come from switching parties, but from consistent participation, innovation, and civic engagement.
