Abia Govt Confirms Arrest of Soldier After Otti’s Medical Offer

The Abia State Government has confirmed the arrest of a Nigerian Army personnel who was recently offered medical assistance by Governor Alex Otti.

The state government disclosed that the soldier, identified as Staff Sergeant Amoke Simon, was arrested by military authorities over alleged involvement in a fraud case.

According to the government, the soldier had earlier been brought to the attention of Governor Otti by an NGO for medical support after sustaining injuries during service. The governor had reportedly extended assistance on compassionate grounds.

Speaking on the development, the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, explained that the state government was not aware of the allegations against the soldier at the time of offering support.

He noted that the government’s intervention was part of its broader humanitarian efforts aimed at supporting citizens and security personnel facing health challenges or hardship.

Ekeoma added that the state had requested due diligence on the soldier, a move that may have contributed to the subsequent action taken by the Nigerian Army leading to his arrest.

The Abia government emphasized that it fully supports the Nigerian Army in taking appropriate disciplinary measures against any erring personnel, stressing that accountability must be upheld.

Despite the controversy, the state reiterated its commitment to assisting individuals in need, including security operatives who suffer injuries in the line of duty.
