Zamfara State, Nigeria — Tragedy struck in Zamfara on Thursday, October 15, 2025, as armed bandits ambushed a security patrol team, killing five policemen and three Community Protection Guards along the Gusau–Funtuwa Road in Tsafe Local Government Area.

According to eyewitness accounts, the security personnel were returning from a routine patrol assigned from Government House, Gusau, when the assailants launched a surprise attack near Gidan Giye village, just a few kilometres from Tsafe town.

A local resident, identified as Ya’u Musa, said the gunmen had laid an ambush by the roadside and opened fire as soon as the patrol vehicle approached. He revealed that all eight security operatives were killed on the spot.

“It appears the attackers were informed about their movement because they struck with precision and fled immediately on motorcycles into the forest,” Musa recounted.

Following the assault, the remains of the deceased officers and guards were evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre, Gusau, for proper identification and burial arrangements.

The latest incident has heightened tension across Zamfara State, which has faced relentless waves of bandit attacks targeting civilians, security personnel, and travelers.

Residents have called on the federal and state governments to strengthen intelligence gathering, deploy more security reinforcements, and take decisive steps to curb the increasing violence that has plagued the region.
